Random Q&A

Q: What was the first original CD or music piece you bought with your own money? And why?

A: Thandiswa Mazwai - Zabalaza Double CD - It had always been an intention of mine that the first original piece of music I own be proudly South African. I think Thandiswa Mazwai at that point in time was the perfect choice. Though the CD had been out for some time already, I enjoyed her music and I guess I also identified with her as a Xhosa woman. This was in 2008, I had my first job and I had recently moved to Johannesburg. I do not usually buy much music, but when it hits me as much as Miss Mazwai's album did at that time, I then have to own the piece.

Just thinking...

The phrase "when doors to enter or knock on are non-existant, i create my own doors" has been constantly on my mind since the year began, and instead of trying to figure out why this has been so, I have been so busy and caught up in trying to make the most of what this year will bring. Maybe this is my motto for 2012, who knows. Nothing after all has to stay the same. But for now, the phrase is all that comes up in my mind everytime I think 'I am not supposed to be here'.

Definition...

The definition of (our) love lies not in worldly possessions, forgotten actions and heated arguments…

The definition of (our) love is evident in the fire that burns even when we are mountains apart and burns me, yet I keep coming back for more…

The definition of (our) love slides beyond clenched jaws, whitened knuckles and crumpled sheets….

The definition of (our) love is simply LOVE.

Lyricism

Thinking about You - Frank Ocean

A tornado flew around my room before you came
Excuse the mess it made, it usually doesn't rain
In Southern California, much like Arizona
My eyes don't shed tears, but, boy, they bawl

When I'm thinkin' 'bout you
(Ooh, no, no, no)
I've been thinkin' 'bout you
(You know, know, know)
I've been thinkin' 'bout you
Do you think about me still?
Do ya, do ya?

Or do you not think so far ahead? (Ahead)
'Cause I been thinkin' 'bout forever (Oooh, oooh)
Or do you not think so far ahead? (Ahead)
'Cause I been thinkin' 'bout forever (Oooh, oooh)

No, I don't like you, I just thought you were cool
Enough to kick it
Got a beach house I could sell you in Idaho
Since you think I don't love you, I just thought you were cute
That's why I kiss you
Got a fighter jet, I don't get fly it, though
I'm lyin' down thinkin' 'bout you

I've been thinkin' 'bout you
(Ooh, no, no, no)
I've been thinkin' 'bout you
(You know, know, know)
Do you think about me still?
Do ya, do ya?

Or do you not think so far ahead? (Ahead)
'Cause I been thinkin' 'bout forever (Oooh, oooh)
Or do you not think so far ahead? (Ahead)
'Cause I been thinkin' 'bout forever (Oooh, oooh)
Yes, of course
I remember, how could I forget?

How you feel?
And though you were my first time
A new feel
It won't ever get old, not in my soul
Not in my spirit, keep it alive
We'll go down this road
'Til it turns from color to black and white

Or do you not think so far ahead? (Ahead)
'Cause I been thinkin' 'bout forever (Oooh, oooh)
Or do you not think so far ahead? (Ahead)
'Cause I been thinkin' 'bout forever (Oooh, oooh)

Her Day: Me'shell Ndegeocello

My friend Be formally introduced me to this here lady, Me'shell Ndegeocello:

This was during our frequent exchange of music. When I discovered her, my first listen, 'Crying in your beer' blew me away! More than it was in the production, it was in her voice. The sincerity, the emotions it evokes, makes you listen to every word...and then the instruments.

Like most on earth, I LOVE MUSIC and people like Me'shell make me understand why. She is an absolute gem. And then, later I found out that I knew her music before I knew her name. 'Fool of me' was the first song I heard from this highly talented lady and to make things even more amazing, it was on the soundtrack of my favourite African American movie of all time 'Love and Basketball'.

I am definately looking to buy any of her albums that I can get my hands on. She has released 9 albums since she made her first appearance in the 90's, and her latest offering is 'Weather', released in 2011. Go look for her and listen...

a chance to start over new...in 2012

2011 was a good year. In all aspects of it, and I am greatful for the blessing that was year 23 of my life. I met new friends, I lost old ones, I kept existing ones, I got a promotion, I decided to go back to school (2012), I got my heart broken, I got my heart healed, I continually learnt how to love, live, be happy. I learnt new things, I rejected to learn some, I read lots of new books, and I bought most of them. I did not buy any CD's, I bought lots of clothes and gifts. I learnt how to accept things I cannot change, I learnt I was strong. I took lots of photographs, I had sleepless nights crying, I had long phone conversations talking about nonsense. I fell a couple of times inside my house, I rolled on the grass once. I splashed the man behind most of my smiles with water, I slapped him numerous times playfully, I held his hand, I looked into his eyes. I shared kisses, hugs. I screamed a couple of times, I lied on the floor in a bundle weeping once or twice. I smiled till my jaws became painful, I danced to slow and fast music. I went out at night every now and again, I spent the majority of my weekends watching movies, eating, and sleeping. I grew. I evolved into the woman I am today.

In 2011 I lived, and now I am being afforded the chance to start over new...in 2012.
Happy New Year, Blessing for the Year ahead.
Be Greater than you were before!!!
